Art Pharmacy was contacted by new clients, GMP, after being referred by another high-end hotel company, with a request to source artworks for the newly opened The Westin Brisbane.

The project consisted of Art Pharmacy pitching various artists, before guiding the chosen artist in the creation of bespoke site-specific artworks. The project was to support the overarching art narrative created by Art Pharmacy Consulting for The Westin Brisbane. The works were to sit in the hotel’s signature restaurant ‘Eden’s Table’, and reflect the urban jungle aesthetic of the interior design.

Art Pharmacy presented the client with several artists and Ellie Hannon, an Australian painter was eventually chosen to create the commissions. Ellie’s practice involves painting, drawing, ceramics and mural works. She establishes a visual narrative surrounding themes of the environment. Drawing inspiration from her travels, she is fascinated with handmade objects and the way in which artefacts, forms of architecture and textiles can be a time capsule of unique narratives, histories and memories.

Over two months, the artist created three artworks, one of which was a painting on a large-scale round. The artist had never worked on a round before, and was excited by the challenge. At 1.8m in diameter, the round was custom ordered in Melbourne: the store being the only place in Australia that makes art rounds at such a large scale.

Installation took place over an afternoon, with a Brisbane-based Art Pharmacy photographer being commissioned to document the works in situ.

The finished result was three beautiful artworks which accentuate the visual narrative of The Westin Brisbane.
